#16 Week 7: Wikis

If I was a teacher I would ban the use of Wikipedia.
I did find the Commoncrafts Videos' demonstration of wikis very useful. I enjoyed watching it and it helped me to understand wikis. Maybe it's my learning style but I found it easier to watch the video demonstration to understand the process. I can see it being useful in the context as shown in the video, but as an authoritative tool I'm still not sure.

I have to agree with some of the views presented in the suggested reading and comments attached that say wikis have the potential to be nothing more than a platform for gossip, extreme negative views or derogatory comments/views against particular people or subject matters.

I still need to find even more positive examples of wikis before I'm convinced.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...

It's getting to the end of the day and my eyes feel like they're starting to hang out of my head. I have read the other views on Library 2.0. Comment? How can I comment when I'm getting sick of the sight of computers and I want to go home and open a real book and read. You know those things made out of paper, bound together and usually with a lovely decorated dustjacket on it.
I'm starting to relate to those people that suddenly pack in there jobs and 'go bush'. You know live off the land, have no technology to interfere with their lives.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

As I said in my previous post I've had a look but I don't think I'll be using this either. It doesn't mean I won't recommend these tools to people who will actually use them and find them useful, I will certainly pass this information on to others.
Whatever floats your boat, but frankly it doesn't float mine!!!

#13 Tagging, folksonomies, etc.

Well I've had a look and I'm getting sick of this sharing with anonymous people in cyberspace.
I've already shared way more information about myself then I ever normally would just to be able to complete this Learning 2.0 training. If I sound like a whingeing stick in the mud then too bad. I can see it's purpose but I'm not using it.

#12 Roll your own search tool Rollyo.

Well I've come this far. I've created a Rollyo account and added my search roll to my blog, but until I have time to really have a good go at Rollyo I think it's of limited use to me so far. I can see how it may be very useful for many people. Especially for someone who travels a lot or doesn't have a dedicated PC they use that would already have their favourite sites loaded.
I shall explore Rollyo more at a later date, but until then I will continue with trying to get 2.0 completed before the deadline.

A huge thanks to PinkLil

I must say a huge thanks to PinkLil for saving my sanity this morning by helping me with adding my random books powered by LibraryThing as seen on the PinkLil Blog.
And just to show how clever PinkLil is I've been able to use the information I have just been given to add a list of 'My websites of interest'. PinkLil is my first well admittedly not website, but blog to go on my list. Feel free to check out PinkLil's blog because I have always had a great respect for PinkLil's knowledge of literature (that includes picture books) and you never know you may find an interesting new title to read from PinkLil's list of random books powered by LibraryThing.

#11 All about LibraryThing

I have added only five books as suggested, but at some stage will obviously add more to LibraryThing. I like the idea of LibraryThing and have already thought of a few people that I can suggest it to. I'm thinking especially of those people I know who are happy to browse the net to find books and books related information in their own time. LibrayThing might just add another useful element to their book searching experience.
